Our Story
Providing advanced vision care in a professional and comfortable environment has been at the very heart of Texas State Optical (TSO) since it was founded in 1936. It is TSO’s grand vision to offer patients convenient locations, qualified Doctors of Optometry, and a complete line of competitively priced eyewear that is not only aesthetically fashionable but also functional. These core values have remained stable throughout the years. Today, the TSO family has grown to become a respected organization of independent doctor-owned and operated eye care practices in Texas.
Our Champions location was established in 1986. Dr. Wayne Martz, a therapeutic optometrist practicing family eye care, has made it his mission to establish an amazing experience for his patients by providing comprehensive eye and vision care in an inviting environment, a goal that is ongoing within the practice today.
Dr. Ayesha Butt, joined the practice in 2013 as a therapeutic optometrist and glaucoma specialist. Dr. Butt is actively involved in the management of dry eyes, ocular infections, and allergies. She is experienced in diagnosing and managing diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age related macular degeneration. She also co-manages LASIK and Cataract surgery patients with local ophthalmologists. Since Dr. Butt shares same mission and values as Dr. Maltz, he decided to hand over the torch of ownership and management to her in 2014 while he continues to focus on providing the best care possible to his existing patients.
The doctors and staff of the TSO Champions have pushed the standards of superb vision care and quality eyewear so high that the office is now seeing second or third generation of patients. Dr. Ayesha Butt, OD has made her goal to extend TSO Champions’ services to the most deserving population. She was originally trained in Canada where routine eye examinations start at the age of 6 months. Her goal is to prevent vision problems and serious eye conditions early on. Being a mother, in addition to an eye care provider, she believes that eye and vision care is an essential part of infant wellness care. She encourages parents to bring their kids for routine eye exams before they even start to complain about their vision. Her charming personality and attention to detail helps her see younger patients with ease. This is why TSO Champions has grown from two to four doctors and has extended its office hours to meet the growing demand. Please visit our optometrists’ section to get to know more about our doctors.
The eye doctors at TSO Champions care about patients’ overall health and pay special attention to their visual demands. TSO has earned recognition as the largest single provider of vision insurance plans in Texas. TSO Champions, on the other hand, is also credentialed to take several medical insurance plans. That’s because we routinely manage dry eyes, ocular infections, allergies, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and adverse effects of systemic disease such as hypertension and diabetes.
TSO Champions is equipped with the latest and the greatest technology so the doctors can diagnose ocular conditions early on. We fit almost all the soft, hard and specialty contacts lens available. Our frame selection in ranked the best in terms of quality, durability and functionality. Please visit our office to see wide variety of eyewear selection.
At TSO Champions, we’re proud of our history and excited about the future as we continue to help TSO patients enjoy the best vision possible. After all, we’re not Texas State Optical by chance, but by choice. We’ve grown into our name and will continue to work hard at keeping our patients satisfied and coming back with their family and friends to benefit from TSO’s long tradition of excellence in quality eye care and eyewear.
